Golf in Bulgaria is still a relatively new past time to the locals here (like there are only just over 500 registered players, that’s less than your average golf club in the UK or Ireland).
It is however gaining popularity helped by the property boom of recent years which has seen several new courses built in the middle of (usually) tastefully designed villas and apartments.
Many of the great names of golf (Player and Woosnam to name a couple) have been invited to build courses and although young, are in wonderful surroundings and promise to be world class when bedded in properly.
Unlike Spain or even Turkey, you are unable to literally “trip over” courses as they tend to be quite far apart. However the designers have had the forethought to include many other services and facilities in the majority of the golf resorts so there is plenty to do apart from play. St. Sofia- Sofia
Opened in 2004, St. Sofia Golf is a young but beautifully presented golf club.
Its 5,779 yard, par 72 course is located on the outskirts of Ravna pole which itself is less than a fifteen minute drive from the capitals centre. Although the club is only 6 years old it is already undergoing a facelift with the help of Paul McGinley although this does mean that only the back 9 holes are operational at the present time.

Black Sea Rama - Balchik
Located near the coastal resort town of Balchik, Black Sea Rama was designed by Gary Player and won the Best New Golf Course in the World award in 2009.
Endless sea view from the height of 200 meters towards the magnificent and extremely diverse bay from Cape Kaliakra to Cape Galata of the Black Sea - that is BlackSeaRama, the first championship signature golf course in Bulgaria - 18 holes, par 72, length of 6648 meters - and the first completed project of Gary Player in Eastern Europe.

Air Sofia Golf Club - Ihtiman
The first golf course in Bulgaria and arguably the best settled offering the best value. Only 35 minutes from Sofia with an interestingly designed club house (it’s a plane!) there are also other activities available on site.

Sliven Golf - Sliven
Owned by Air Sofia (Above) this golf course is the closest to the coastal city of Bourgas. Offers good value for money for the budget conscious golfer.
